First Week on the Road

We have officially completed our first week on the road! We've also officially named our little van, Vance. He fits the name pretty well.
Sometimes living in a van feels like jumping into cold water. Its new, its different, and every day is an adventure. You must truly embody "going with the flow".

I've been getting a ton of questions about what we're going to do after this trip. The answer is that this is not just a trip. This is a move into a new way of living. There are no real plans to live anywhere other than the van for next few years. Since it's outfitted with everything we need and holds almost all of our belongings, why wouldn't we stay mobile for the next few years? Touring everywhere we can and seeing all we can see!

Since leaving WNY we have crossed 4 states - NY, CT, NJ, and PA. Something that's pretty easy to do in the northeast. It was also my birthday during this first week on the road. Last year I turned 22 while hiking out of the Grand Canyon from Havasu Falls. This year was filled with all the ups, downs, and excitement of moving into life on the road.

The first part of our trip lead us to the Hudson Valley and Stamford, CT for NERFA. It was great to see so many old friends and connect with all the talented people at the conference. I was lucky enough to celebrate my 23rd birthday with an Official Folk DJ Showcase.

Having our bikes on the back of the van has been a blessing. Its nice to be able to get around without having to drive. If you're considering van life, get a bike. You'll thank me later.

Soon we'll be moving into southern states and then farther west. Thankfully we've been able to explore fall in all its glory before leaving! Goodbye New York!
